Tokyo Ueno New Izu Hotel
The hotel was easy to find if you exit Ueno station from the 3rd Exit/Gate. There was another exit that had an elevator which was also useful if you have to lug your luggage around to the hotel. The trip to the hotel was mostly flat and there was a small plane into the lobby so it's pretty wheelchair-friendly. The receptionists, both in the morning and evening, were very helpful. I managed to get checked in earlier than expected (around 2.30pm) and the staff allowed me to keep my belongings there before checking in and after checking out of the hotel. Each time one leaves the hotel, it was required to leave the hotel key with them which is a great thing as I didn't have to worry about misplacing my hotel key while I'm outside exploring Tokyo. There was a lift to the guest rooms so one doesn't need to worry about lugging their belongings up, especially when feeling tired after a long trip. The size of the room was probably the most spacious amongst others with a comparable price range. Not only could I open my luggage flat, but there was even plenty of room for me to perform my prayers. The walls are thick enough for privacy although you may hear some noise occasionally if the sounds are loud enough. The bed was very comfortable and big for a single person to sleep in, and the comforters were warm. The room was equipped with a private bathroom, toilet bidet, shower head AND your own bathtub to soak in after a long day out. They provide a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, hair conditioner and body shampoo so one doesn't need to bring much of their basic toiletries while staying there. The hotel will clean the room and leave fresh towels and sleeping yukata every single day so it was a nice feeling coming back to the hotel during my week-long stay. There is 7E nearby where it was convenient to get any necessities or konbini food. You can keep cold drinks or food too as the room is equipped with a small refrigerator.

The property is very no frills but priced accordingly. Amazing in terms of location - 2 blocks from Ueno station and walking distance to Kuramae, Asakusa, Kappabasha Dori. I’m also a sucker for the down-at-heel ‘Perfect Days’ vibe of this part of Ueno: it’s quiet, a hodgepodge of different lower-rise buildings but always a safe area to walk around. The front desk staff were pleasant about taking my luggage when I turned up from an early flight at 6am. Although my room was small and old, with a view of the wall of the next-door building, it was clean and the bed was comfortable. This is safe, clean, astonishingly cheap accommodation for Tokyo.

Excellent location, close to Ueno station. Restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Ameyoko market nearby. Room was spotless. Shower room was great. Staff were super friendly. Stayed in "Japanese-style" room with futon - very comfortable (they have Western-style rooms, too). WiFi worked well. I believe they have smoking rooms. I stayed in a non-smoking room, and it truly was smoke-free. Room was larger than at many business traveler hotels in Tokyo. Would stay there again.

Had umbrellas for free lending. Staff gave me 2 extra pillows. Smart TV in the room, could connect to my own netflix and youtube. Key storage by reception so no worries on lost keys. Sufficiently clean. Decent room space for single room, could open up my luggage fully and still have some space . Rare to see hotels that still offers daily sheet changes and cleaning. Close to 2 conbini and some food, short walk to Ameyoko drinking street.

The Tokyo Ueno New Izu hotel was fabulous. Even with construction going on outside during part of each day, it was quiet, perfectly located so close to the metro/train station, the shops, the night life market area, even a local 7-eleven. Rooms were notably bigger than I’d expected. House keeping and air conditioning was excellent, staff were friendly and courteous, and price was great. This place comes highly commended by us.
